Full day tour, roughly 09:00 to 18:00 (9 am to 6 pm)All fees included. Pick up at your hotel or train station.Tasty, basic meal for lunch, with soft drinks and water on the way.
All in a day, we visit:
- Cheese making farms
- World famous chocolate production
- The Gruyère castle
- Chalets and mountain tops
Walk through the medieval town of Gruyères with its famous castle, and take a look at modern cheese making and traditional old-style cheese production by farmers in mountain huts (chalets d’alpage). We drive on small mountain roads to appreciate the beauty of Gruyère landscapes. Then we finish our day at the chocolate factory, tasting the world’s most popular treat.
Note, the traditional cheese making process in the mountains only takes place in summer months, generally May to October, when farmers bring their cows to Alpine pastures. In winter we visit a cheese museum and the modern cheese making factory where you can follow all stages of cheese production, from heating the milk to pressing the cheese into the moulds.
If you are in the mood, taste and buy cheese directly from the farmers and in the shop in the cheese factory.
Can you spend another day in our region? Then visit the interior of the castle, The Giger museum (think "Alien" film), take a cable car trip to Moleson summit for an amazing panoramic view above 2000 meters, and enjoy your evening in the Gruyères thermal baths. Let us know if you need help finding accommodations in the area.
